pen@Burke 12.15.13PAUL NELSON is a poet, interviewer, essayist. He founded Seattle Poetics LAB & the Cascadia Poetry Festival & wrote American Sentences (poems, 2015), A Time Before Slaughter (shortlisted for a 2010 Genius Award by The Stranger) Organic Poetry (essays) and Organic in Cascadia: A Sequence of Energies (book-length-essay, Lumme Editions, Brazil, 2013).  Paul was the lead editor of and driving force behind Make It True: Poetry From Cascadia.

He’s interviewed Allen Ginsberg, Michael McClure, Sam Hamill, José Kozer, Robin Blaser, Nate Mackey, Joanne Kyger, George Bowering, Brenda Hillman and Daphne Marlatt, presented poetry/poetics in London, Brussels, Nanaimo, Qinghai & Beijing, China, has had work translated into Spanish, Chinese & Portuguese & writes an American Sentence every day.

Awarded a residency at The Lake, from the Morris Graves Foundation in Loleta, CA, he’s published work in Golden Handcuffs Review, Zen Monster, Hambone, and elsewhere. Winner of the 2014 Robin Blaser Award from The Capilano Review, he lives in the Duwamish River watershed.
